While blue is a common color in the ocean, pure blue coral is extremely rare due to the difficulty of producing the necessary pigments. Additionally, blue coral's unique Aragonite skeleton, distinct from the white skeletons of most other corals, contributes to its rarity

It's found in reefs of the Indo-Pacific, including areas like the Great Barrier Reef, Australia, Japan, and the Ryukyu Islands.
